World Trafficking Awareness

Human trafficking is a topic that isn’t fueled by political parties, race or religion. It’s is a battle that is being fought physically and spiritually, a real-life tangible example of good vs. evil. In a time where we struggle to find a cause to agree on, I think it’s safe to say we can all agree that the trafficking of humans for labor, sex and organ harvesting is not just wrong, but pure evil.

Facts:

  • Globally, 3,200 people will be trafficked in the next 24 hours
  • There are an estimated 30 million slaves in the world today, more than any other time in recorded history.
  • 80% of trafficking victims are female
  • 50% of trafficking victims are under the age of 16
  • Humans are trafficked for labor, sex and organ harvesting. 90% of all humans trafficked will be sexually exploited at some point during their captivity.
  • Globally, the trafficking industry generates an estimated $99 billion in profit each year.
  • Events like the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby and the Olympics are often when large numbers of sex trafficking operations occur.
  • The average age of a victim is 13 years old, but there have been trafficking cases reported of children as young as 6 months old.
  • Currently the prosecution rate of human traffickers is .04%. Meaning roughly one prosecution for every 2,500 victims. Furthermore, the conviction rate of these rare prosecutions is 45%.

Get Involved:

There are several ways to get involved in the fight against human trafficking. Some of them are simpler than others, but it’s important to do something.

  • PRAY – Pray for the victims, that they will be protected during their slavery, and ultimately freed. Pray for those individuals that are actively, physically fighting the traffickers. Pray for the families affected. Pray for the “system” and that justice will be served. Finally, pray for the abuser, that God will intervene in his/her life and that their eyes will be opened to the light and salvation in Jesus Christ.
  • DONATE – Donations help to continue the fight and help pay for all of the logistics that go into a global battle for justice. I recommend looking into www.ourrescue.org and consider donating.
  • EDUCATE YOURSELF: Do the research! Find out how big this problem is! Education is power in so many areas of life, and I believe when we educate ourselves about what is going on around us, we can begin to hear from the Lord in a new way. Our Rescue (Operation Underground Railroad) offers a great free source of education. Click here to take a course that will educate you on the signs of trafficking and what to look for, how to report it, and other ways to help in your community.

After all, you can’t serve an issue you know nothing about!
