Boo your Neighbor! – #bloomboochallenge

This Halloween we decided to have some fun with our neighbors! We boo-ed them! Trust me… it’s a good thing! A friend of mine was boo-ed in her neighborhood and it got me thinking. I decided to bring this fun tradition to our little cul-de-sac.

I did what anyone would do, I pulled up Pinterest for ideas. Let me tell you, there are plenty of ideas to boo your neighbors! Who knew?!

Most everything I came across included tubs of candy and Halloween trinkets, which are great for a neighbor with a house full of kids, I guess. I wanted to go a little different direction. Surprise surprise, right?

I decided, since we don’t have many neighbors with young children, I would design our boo gift with adults in mind. The kids get plenty of goodies on Halloween night anyway!

Penelope (4) and I had a blast picking out fun Halloween items at Target! We found some great things. Just because you are working with a small budget, doesn’t mean you have to skimp. It also doesn’t mean you should buy 15, $1 items. ‘Inexpensive’ and ‘cheap’ are two completely different things. Take your time, put thought into it and don’t settle until you find what feels right. These are good things to keep in mind any time you’re buying a gift.

I set a budget of $15. $10 wasn’t enough and $20 seemed like too much. I decided to boo 2 neighbors. I spent just under $33 total and that included a roll of wrapping paper that I’ll have leftover and can use another time. Technically I stayed within budget!

Everything came from Target,
one easy 15 minute trip!

We decided to forgo the popular style of using a Halloween bucket, and opted to use black and white wrapping paper with orange ribbon.

When you boo your neighbors, the point of the game is to start a chain reaction. You’ll want to include the “We’ve been BOOed!” Sign for the window or door. This also tells your neighbors how to keep the ‘booing’ going! Download them and print them in color or black & white.

We packed our items neatly in a box, wrapped it up and added a few finishing touches, including a “spooky ghost” balloon!

Easily transform a white, helium-filled balloon into a “spooky ghost”!

This was when it got fun! Knocking & running was P’s favorite part!

We had a blast booing our neighbors and I know they loved getting a little Halloween treat! Take some time out of your busy day to enjoy this season with your neighbors. Everybody likes a good surprise. I’m challenging you to start this fun tradition in your neighborhood… will you accept the ‘Bloom Boo Challenge’?

I’d love to see what you do with your family. Post and tag us: #bloomboochallenge

Thanks for stopping by, Jamie xo

  1. What a cute idea,I think it could be used at work also. Just leave package on a co-workers desk.

    1. Absolutely! When I was a teacher, we used to do it in our classrooms. The teachers would Boo each other and hang the sign outside of the door! It was a blast!
