DIY Simple Composter for a Kitchen Garden

We are still pretty new to gardening and very new to composting! When I started planning our compost, I wanted to keep it simple and not feel like I had a fourth child to tend to! Composting has a lot of technicalities, but we decided to just start!

XO, Jamie

I used a large, 20 gallon latching Sterilite tote, drilled holes in all sides (including the lid) with a 3/16 drill bit… and boom! It was really that easy! As far as what to compost and how it all works… I’m still learning!

So far, I added composted soil from my in-law’s yard, scraps from the kitchen countertop composter, and worms. We’ll add a few sprays of water and give it a stir with the shovel every few days when we add new scraps. Other than that, it’s complete “hands-on” learning over here!

The kids are having fun with it and it’s given them a new “chore” that they actually look forward to doing! Thanks for stopping by, Jamie xo
